Welcome to the website of
The Maghreb Studies Association

The Maghreb Studies Association, founded in 1981, is an independent international Association open to those interested in any aspect of the Maghreb, Islamic culture and Mediterranean studies. Its aims are to encourage and co-ordinate research and the exchange of ideas in a wide range of fields, including History, Political Science, Economics, Environmental Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, and the Islamic Culture of the Maghreb and Mediterranean region.

We would also like to promote theoretically informed comparison with neighbouring regions, including sub-Saharan Africa, the Iberian peninsula, southern France, Italy, former Ottoman lands, and the Middle East.

Membership is available to individuals or institutions, with a preferential rate for full time students.
